Dear presenters at the ESEE 2021 conference,
We are glad to announce the possibility for you to publish your conference contributions in special issues of two different journals; Journal of Applied Electrochemistry https://www.springer.com/journal/10800 and Electrochemical Science Advances https://chemistry-europe.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/journal/26985977. While Journal of Applied Electrochemistry is well known to most of us, Electrochemical Science Advances is a new Open Access journal by Wiley-VCH.
You are all invited to send a manuscript to one of these journals. Submission will open the week after the conference (June 21). No publication charge will apply for Electrochemical Science Advances for the special issue and more detailed information about the submission procedure for this journal can be found in the attached letter (download here).
Further instructions will be distributed prior to the conference by email and on the ESEE 2021 web page http://www.electrochemical-engineering.eu/2021/.
Looking forward to your contributions,
Guest editorial team Ann Cornell, Claudia Weidlich and Karel BouzekYou can now register for the conference with full access to the live-streaming of all scientific sessions. For delegates who have already registered as on-site participants, we will contact you for refunds of your registration fee.
Important information regarding the conference format
It is hard to estimate how international traveling will be affected in the upcoming months, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. We are aware that many presenting authors and attendees might experience several travel restrictions (travel bans or quarantine periods*), and might not be able to be physically present in Leeuwarden.
To allow all speakers to present their work and deal with such dynamic situation, the ESEE 2021 conference will be organized as follows:
- Day 1-2 (Mon 14th – Tue 15th): HYBRID event: The first two days of ESEE 2021 will be run in a hybrid format, facilitating both on-site and online participation. We encourage all the speakers/attendees that will be able to travel to join us in Leeuwarden. All sessions will be live-streamed, to allow online participation for registered participants
- Day 3-4 (Wed 16th – Thu 17th): ONLINE event. The last two days of ESEE 2021 will be run fully online, to allow presenting authors with travel restrictions to present their work.
Please note that, In the case of severe restrictions from the Dutch government, the whole event will be fully held online.

The COVID-19 pandemic is affecting all of us, and we are aware that many participants may experience severe travelling restrictions in the upcoming months.
Therefore, we have decided to reschedule the 12th European Symposium on Electrochemical Engineering (ESEE). The event will be held in the same location (Leeuwarden, The Netherlands) on June 13-17, 2021.
We believe that rescheduling ESEE will ensure a broad participation and a successful event.
We would like to thank all the colleagues, speakers, sponsors, and organizing partners that helped us in the past months to shape an exciting scientific program.
We sincerely hope that your family and friends will stay safe and healthy during these difficult times, and we look forward to seeing you next year in Leeuwarden. The situation with the corona virus pandemic in Europe is serious, and the measures taken by national governments are rapidly changing.
